However it’s still winter (based on the calendar) I feel spring is closing in with every day. With the new season approaching it’s time to take a look at the biggest beauty trends in 2016. Some of them are well known and some of them are extremely surprising, take a look!
Opposite to the fully contoured full-on makeup faces, there is an increasing trend of the natural look this year. The natural look means a much softer coverage, and if you are lucky enough to how freckles you’d better not cover them up. Freckles are so in trend, that makeup artists in the backstages of the spring summer 2016 fashion shows (like at Emanuel Ungaro or at Francesco Scognamiglio) even faked them with eyeliner, and a company came up with a stencil-kit to help you create fake freckles.
Oh Those Blue Eyes!
The ultimate eyeshadow shade this year is gonna be blue. It can be baby blue as seen on Chanel’s catwalk or electric blue like on the Monique Lhuillier or Boss shows and even smudged and smokey as we saw it at Marc Jacobs. As long as it’s blue you can’t go wrong with it. Apply eyeshadow, eyeliner or experiment with blue mascara, find your shade and rock it!
Red Like Snow White’s Apple
After the domination of nude lips in the past couple of years, in 2016 the tables are gonna turn and the classic red lip will return. It can be glossy, matte or satin as long as it’s bright like the lips of the famous Disney princess, and carefully drawn you can be sure it’s the ultimate lip look. Bright red lips were showcased on catwalks like Nina Ricci, Dolce Gabbana or Jason Wu.
Twist and turn those braids girl!
Those twisted braids shown at the Public School SS16 show absolutely stole our hearts and now we know them as the “new braid style”. Braids were the go to look at the catwalks of Proenza Schouler and Céline too. It’s unconventional yet easy to recreate: you make a sleek ponytail, divide it in half and twist the sections around each other. Voilá, you are the trendiest girl in town!

The Unexpected French Manicure
I love the plain nude french manicure, which is a timeless classic. But this year french manicure gets a twist and goes colourful and much more different then what we are used to. We saw them in green version at Monique Lhuillier, orange at Veronica Bears or mixed with metallics and the half moon style at Jonathan Simkhai.
