A few months ago I found an interesting new natural beauty brand which first totally blown me away with it’s packaging design, then -after trying a few items of the product range- it impressed me with it’s high quality too. The Seattle based Herbivore is a great treasure for all who looking for pure & natural beauty solutions, and thanks to Gathershop their products are available in the Netherlands too.
I love brands that have their own stories, and I prefer using smaller (sometimes less well-known) brands when I know their items are awesome and with buying their products I support a great “small business”. Herbivore was founded by Julia Wills and Alexander Kummerow in 2011 in their Seattle kitchen. Their products are using the purest and coolest ingredients and lack of all the bad stuff such as; parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, phthalates, chemicals, fillers, mineral oils, or petroleum.
“Knowing that everything we put on our skin quickly absorbs into our bodies, we ethically source the finest raw natural materials the earth has to offer. With ingredients ranging from French pink clay to Brazilian gemstones, we formulate treatments that combine essential vitamins, minerals, and botanicals to restore skin to its optimum health and vitality.” /via the brands website/
Previously I introduced one of the brands iconic product the deliciously smelling Coconut Bath Soak, which turns your bath water to a moisturizing milky pool, leaving your skin super soft. But I tried much more than that, so here is my detailed review of what I found the most interesting products from the brand.
Herbivore – Bamboo Charcoal Cleansing Bar Soap
I was always a big fan of charcoal soaps when it comes to face cleansing. I find them effective but still gentle (no drying) on my problematic and sensitive skin which is a big +. This soap has a very neutral smell, cleanse deeply and exfoliates gently in the meantime. Price: 14 EUR at Gathershop
Herbivore – Sea Mist Texturizing Salt Spray Coconut
If I had to name my favourite Herbivore product, this would be THE ONE. Since I’m a huge fan of coconut smelling beauty products it’s not a big surprise; this item smells delicious and the sweet smell is so long lasting, you just can’t resist to spray it on over and over again after each hair wash. Salt sprays are used to create the “beachy waves” hairstyle. On my long and very thick hair it didn’t worked as I expected, (I mean I didn’t get the twirls I get after swimming in the sea,) but I get textured locks and an amazing amount of volume. I bet if I’ll have my shoulder length hair do back it will work perfectly on that. Price: 24 EUR at Gathershop
Herbivore – Coco Rose Lip Polish
An exciting new addition to the Herbivore family is the Coco Rose lip care line.
“Hydrating Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, sugar, and Bulgarian Rose Absolute combine in this all natural, gently exfoliating and polishing treatment for softening and smoothing lips.”
Tried, tested, loved. The rose smell is a bit strong and it lingers around for long, so if that’s not exactly your cup of tea maybe it won’t be your favourite. But the great exfoliating/hydrating effect makes it worth to give a shot. As a makeup artist I found this a superb lip prepping tool. Price: 22 EUR at Gathershop
Herbivore – Balance Facial Toner
A lightweight toner designed to balance out combined and oily skin. For me it worked great. It’s not a heavy duty toner, but perfect after cleansing to prepare your skin for moisturizing. Really leaves your skin feeling clean and refreshed. Price: 18 USD at Herbivore
Herbivore – Beard Tonic Sampler
This was a recent gift for my husband – he did not try it yet- so I have to update this paragraph soon. But generally speaking this set contains two small sized nourishing oil based beard tonics, that helps to maintain a healthy looking beard with moisturized skin underneath. The “fragrances” are very natural and manly, I really like them both. (The combinations are; Vetiver & Sage which is warm, woodsy, and herbal the other one is Cedar & Bergamot more of a classic cedarwood scent with hints of citrus) Price: 22 USD at Herbivore
